Abdullah bin Ukaym says: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate in this mosque; he began his speech with an oath before speaking, and then he said: "Your Lord will speak with each one of you individually, just as on the fourteenth night the full moon is alone before any one of you. The Lord will say: 'O son of Adam, what deluded you about Me? O son of Adam, what deluded you about Me? O son of Adam, how did you answer the call of the Messengers? O son of Adam, how did you answer the call of the Messengers? O son of Adam, what did you do? O son of Adam, what did you do? O son of Adam, what did you do regarding the knowledge you had? O son of Adam, what did you do regarding the knowledge you had?'"
Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir as mawquf, and he recorded part of it as marfu' in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat (in these words): "O My servant, what deluded you about Me? How did you answer the call of the Messengers?" The narrators of al-Mu'jam al-Kabir are the narrators of the Sahih except for Sharik bin Abdullah, who is thiqah (trustworthy) though there is weakness in him. Among the narrators of al-Mu'jam al-Awsat is also the narrator named Sharik, and besides him Ishaq bin Abdullah al-Tamimi, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy); the remaining narrators of this narration are the narrators of the Sahih.
