Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Several new moons would pass over the household of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and during that time no lamp would be lit (for light at night) in the house of any one of them, nor any fire kindled (for cooking). If they found olive oil, they would apply it, and if they found fat, they would eat it.
Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Uthman bin Ata' al-Khurasani, who is da'if (weak); Duhaym declared him thiqah (trustworthy). The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
