Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The family of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sent us a trotter (or a leg) of a goat at night. I held it and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cut it (the narrator is in doubt; or perhaps the words are:) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held it and I cut it. The narrator says: Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: This was in the days when there were no lamps (in the houses).
Ahmad, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, recorded this narration, and he transmitted these additional words: I said: O Mother of the Believers! Was there no lamp? She said: If we had had oil for a lamp, we would have eaten it. The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.
