Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that he heard Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) relating: (Once) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out of his house when the day was well advanced and found Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sitting in the mosque. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: For what reason have you come out of your house at this time? He said: O Messenger of Allah! I have come out for the same reason for which you have come out. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: O Ibn al-Khattab! For what reason have you come out at this time? He said: O Messenger of Allah! I too have come out for the same reason for which both of you have come out. Then he sat down with the two of them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began talking with them, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: Do you both have enough strength to go to this orchard? Something to eat and drink will be found there. We said: Alright, O Messenger of Allah! Then we set off until we came to the house of Sayyiduna Malik bin al-Tayyihan, Abu al-Haytham al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went ahead of us and sought permission from them to enter. The mother of Abu al-Haytham was hearing the greeting of salam, and she wanted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to give them more greetings. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to turn back, the mother of Abu al-Haytham came running out and said: O Messenger of Allah! I had heard your greeting, but I wanted more greetings to come to us from you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked that woman: Where is Abu al-Haytham? The woman replied: He has gone nearby, O Messenger of Allah! He has gone to fetch sweet water for us. Please come in; he will be here shortly. The woman spread out a mat for them under a tree. Then Sayyiduna Abu al-Haytham (may Allah be pleased with him) came with his donkey, which was loaded with two waterskins. Sayyiduna Abu al-Haytham (may Allah be pleased with him) was very happy to see them, and came and greeted them. Then Sayyiduna Abu al-Haytham (may Allah be pleased with him) climbed a date palm and brought down some clusters. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Abu al-Haytham! This is enough. He said: O Messenger of Allah! Please eat the different kinds of dates. Then he brought them water, and they drank it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: These are the blessings about which you will be held to account. Then Sayyiduna Abu al-Haytham (may Allah be pleased with him) got up and went towards a goat to slaughter it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not slaughter one that gives milk. Then Sayyiduna Abu al-Haytham (may Allah be pleased with him) got up and kneaded dough for them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) laid down their heads and slept. When they woke up, the food was ready. He placed it before them, and they ate their fill. Then Sayyiduna Abu al-Haytham (may Allah be pleased with him) brought the remaining clusters of dates, and they ate from them. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) greeted them with salam and prayed for good for them. Then he said to Sayyiduna Abu al-Haytham (may Allah be pleased with him): When you receive news that slaves have come to us, come to us. Sayyiduna Abu al-Haytham (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I received news that slaves had come to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I came to Madinah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me a slave. Then I made a contract of emancipation (kitabah) with him for forty thousand dirhams. I have not seen any person more full of blessing than him.
