وَعَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ : خَرَجْتُ فَأَتَيْتُ حَائِطًا . قَالَ : فَقَالَ : دَلْوٌ بِتَمْرَةٍ ، قَالَ : فَدَلَّيْتُ حَتَّى مَلَأْتُ كَفَّيَّ ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ الْمَاءَ فَاسْتَعْذَبْتُ - يَعْنِي شَرِبْتُ - ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَأَطْعَمْتُهُ نِصْفَهُ ، وَأَكَلْتُ نِصْفَهُ . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ وُثِّقُوا إِلَّا أَنَّ مُجَاهِدًا لَمْ يَسْمَعْ مِنْ عَلِيٍّ .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I went out and came to an orchard. That man said: You will have to draw one bucket for one date. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I kept drawing buckets until my palm was full (of dates). Then I came to the water and drank. Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); I offered half of the dates to him and I ate half of them myself.
Ahmad recorded this narration, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy, except that the narrator Mujahid did not hear from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
