Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and saw that he looked changed. I said: May my father be ransomed for you, what is the reason? I see you looking changed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: For the past three days nothing has entered my stomach of what can enter the stomach of any living creature. The narrator says: I went, and there was a Jew watering his camels. I drew water for him at the rate of one date for each bucket, until, when I had gathered some dates, I brought them to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: O Ka'b! Where did you get these? I told him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: O Ka'b! Do you love me? I said: May my father be ransomed for you, yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Poverty comes to the one who loves me faster than a flood rushes to its resting places. Soon you will have to face trials, so be ready for them." The narrator says: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) missed him and asked: How is Ka'b? The people said: He is ill. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went on foot and came to him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Ka'b! Receive glad tidings. His mother said: O Ka'b! Congratulations to you on Paradise. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who is this woman who attributes a matter to Allah Almighty? The narrator says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! She is my mother. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Umm Ka'b! Perhaps Ka'b said something that does not benefit him, and withheld something he did not need.
Al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its chain is jayyid (good).
