Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Which deed is most virtuous?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Performing the prayer at its appointed time." I asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Then which?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Treating one's parents well." I asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Then which?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That people are safe from your tongue." (The narrator says:) Then he fell silent, and had I asked him for more, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would have told me more. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: In the "Sahih" only the part about performing the prayer at its appointed time is mentioned from it.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Amr bin Abdullah al-Nakha'i, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
