وَعَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ : إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَتَكَلَّمُ بِالْكَلِمَةِ يُضْحِكُ بِهَا جُلَسَاءَهُ ، مَا يَنْقَلِبُ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ مِنْهَا بِشَيْءٍ يَنْزِلُ بِهَا أَبْعَدَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ وَلَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) states: "A man says something to make the people sitting with him laugh; he does not return home with anything from it, yet because of that word he will fall from a height greater than the distance from the sky to the earth."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Wahhab bin Raja', whom I do not know; the remaining narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
