Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty gives this world to those He loves and (also gives it) to those He does not love, but He gives religion only to those He loves. By Allah, in whose Hand is my soul, a servant does not become a Muslim until his heart becomes Muslim, and a servant does not become a believer until his neighbour is safe from his harm." The people asked: "What is meant by his harm?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "His oppression and his wrongdoing. If a servant earns wealth unlawfully and gives it in charity, it will not be accepted from him; if he spends from it, no blessing will be placed in it for him; and if he leaves that wealth behind him, it will be his provision for the journey to Hell. Indeed, Allah Almighty does not erase evil with evil; rather, He erases evil with good. A foul thing does not erase another foul thing. If a person earns wealth unlawfully and spends it wrongfully, that is a chronic disease; and whoever earns wealth lawfully and spends it rightly, his example is like rain that descends." The narrator states: After that he mentioned a word which I did not remember.
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its chain contains narrators whom I do not know.
