عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مَا تَمَامُ الْبِرِّ ؟ قَالَ : " أَنْ تَعْمَلَ فِي السِّرِّ عَمَلَ الْعَلَانِيَةِ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ زِيَادِ بْنِ أَنْعَمَ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ لَمْ يَتَعَمَّدِ الْكَذِبَ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ وُثِّقُوا عَلَى ضَعْفٍ فِي بَعْضِهِمْ .
Sayyiduna Abu Malik al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the perfection of righteousness?' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'That you do in secret the same deed you do openly.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Rahman bin Ziyad bin An'um, who is da'if (weak) but did not deliberately lie, and the remaining narrators of this report have been declared trustworthy, although some of them have weakness.
