In one narration the wording is: (The narrator says:) I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when this verse was revealed to him: "O you who believe, do not ask about things which, if they were made plain to you, would displease you." The narrator says: We began asking the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), whereupon he said: Allah Almighty will have certain servants who will be neither prophets nor martyrs, yet the prophets and martyrs will envy them for their place of sitting and their nearness in the court of Allah Almighty. The narrator says: He then mentioned the long hadith. All of these narrations were recorded by Imam Ahmad, and Imam al-Tabarani recorded something similar, adding these words: "They will be before the Most Merciful on pulpits of light made of pearls." The narrators of this report have been declared trustworthy.
