عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ : أَنَّهُ جَمَعَ قَوْمَهُ - قُلْتُ : فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ إِلَى أَنْ قَالَ : - ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لَمَّا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا بِوَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ : " يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ، اسْمَعُوا وَاعْقِلُوا ، وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ لِلَّهِ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - عِبَادًا لَيْسُوا بِأَنْبِيَاءَ وَلَا شُهَدَاءَ ، يَغْبِطُهُمُ النَّبِيُّونَ وَالشُّهَدَاءُ عَلَى مَنَازِلِهِمْ ، وَقُرْبِهِمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ " . فَجَثَا رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ مِنْ قَاصِيَةِ النَّاسِ ، وَأَلْوَى بِيَدِهِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، نَاسٌ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لَيْسُوا بِأَنْبِيَاءَ وَلَا شُهَدَاءَ ، يَغْبِطُهُمُ الْأَنْبِيَاءُ وَالشُّهَدَاءُ عَلَى مَجَالِسِهِمْ وَقُرْبِهِمْ [ مِنَ اللَّهِ ] ؟ انْعَتْهُمْ لَنَا حُلَّهُمْ لَنَا - يَعْنِي صِفْهُمْ لَنَا - شَكِّلْهُمْ لَنَا ، فَسُرَّ وَجْهُ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بِسُؤَالِ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " هُمْ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَفْنَاءِ النَّاسِ ، وَنَوَازِعِ الْقَبَائِلِ ، لَمْ تَصِلْ بَيْنَهُمْ أَرْحَامٌ مُتَقَارِبَةٌ ، تَحَابُّوا فِي اللَّهِ وَتَصَافَوْا ، يَضَعُ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مَنَابِرَ مِنْ نُورٍ ، فَيُجْلِسُهُمْ عَلَيْهَا ، فَيَجْعَلُ وُجُوهَهُمْ نُورًا ، وَثِيَابَهُمْ نُورًا ، يَفْزَعُ النَّاسُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَلَا يَفْزَعُونَ ، وَهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ اللَّهِ الَّذِينَ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ " .
It is reported about Sayyiduna Abu Malik al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he gathered his people. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: He then narrated the full report, in which, further on, he states: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had completed the prayer, he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his face towards us and said: "O people, listen and understand! And know that Allah Almighty has certain servants who will be neither prophets nor martyrs, yet the prophets and martyrs will envy them for their rank and their nearness in the court of Allah Almighty." A Bedouin man who was sitting far away rose onto his knees, pointed with his hand towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and submitted: O Messenger of Allah, there will be people who will be neither prophets nor martyrs, yet the prophets and martyrs will envy them for their place of sitting and their nearness in the court of Allah Almighty? Describe their appearance to us, describe their qualities to us, describe their form to us. The narrator says: The face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) lit up with joy at the Bedouin's question, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They will be people from different regions and different tribes, with no ties of kinship between them. They will love one another for the sake of Allah Almighty and keep ties with one another. On the Day of Resurrection, Allah Almighty will have pulpits of light set up for them and will seat them upon them. He will make their faces light and their clothes light. On the Day of Resurrection, (other) people will be in terror, but these people will not be in terror. They are those friends (awliya') of Allah upon whom there will be no fear, nor will they grieve."
