Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Miqah comes from Allah Almighty (the narrator Sharik says: it means love), and repute comes from the heaven. When Allah Almighty loves a servant, He says to Jibril: I love so-and-so. So he announces: Allah Almighty loves so-and-so, so (O angels!) you too love him! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then that love descends upon the earth. And when Allah Almighty dislikes a servant, He says to Jibril: I dislike so-and-so, so you too dislike him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: So Sayyiduna Jibril announces: Your Lord dislikes so-and-so, so you too dislike him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then dislike for that person is spread upon the earth."
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration, and Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its narrators have been declared trustworthy. (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: I have not found this narration in "al-Atraf".
