عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْيَمَانِ - قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِقَوْمٍ فَهُوَ مِنْهُمْ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ غُرَابٍ ، وَقَدْ وَثَّقَهُ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ ، وَضَعَّفَهُ بَعْضُهُمْ وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever imitates a people is one of them."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Ali bin Ghurab, whom more than one person declared thiqah (trustworthy) while some declared him da'if (weak); the remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
