Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1795

Sayyiduna Dhu Mikhbar (may Allah be pleased with him), the nephew of the Negus (al-Najashi), narrates: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on an expedition. The people travelled through the night, then they made camp. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and said: O Dhu Mikhbar. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Here I am, and happiness is attained through you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of the head of my she-camel and said: Sit here, and do not become a child tonight (that is, do not fall asleep). So I held the she-camel's head; then my eyes closed and I fell asleep. The she-camel slipped away and left, and I woke only because of the heat of the sun. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and said: O Dhu Mikhbar. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Here I am, and happiness can be attained through you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Allah, last night you did become a child, just as I told you. Then we moved away from that place, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer. When he completed the prayer, he prayed that the she-camel be returned, and winds came driving it along. When the next day came, as soon as true dawn broke, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he called the adhan; then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him, and he called the iqamah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer. When he had completed the prayer, he said: This is our prayer of yesterday. Then he offered that day's prayer afresh. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Imam Abu Dawud recorded a part of this narration.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains al-Abbas bin Abdul Rahman. Dawud bin Abi Hind narrated from him, and I have not found anyone else narrating from this narrator; he himself narrated hadiths from a group of the Companions.
