Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) said: O my Lord! The state of Your believing servant is that You put him in hardship in the world. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A gate of Paradise was opened for him and he looked at Paradise. The Lord said: O Musa! This is what I have prepared for him (the poor believer). Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) said: By Your might and Your majesty! Even if both his arms and both his feet were cut off and he were dragged on his face from the day of his birth until the Day of Resurrection, but this were his end, then that person has never seen any hardship. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) said: O my Lord! You grant Your disbelieving servant abundance in the world. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A gate of Hell was opened for him. The Lord said: O Musa! This is what I have prepared for him (the well-off disbeliever). Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) said: O my Lord! By Your might and Your majesty! Even if he were given the whole world from the day You created him until the Day of Resurrection, and this were his end, it is as though he has never seen any good."
Imam Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, and a narrator, Darraj, and both of them have been declared trustworthy despite the weakness found in them.
