وَعَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " مَنْ قَضَى نَهْمَتَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا حِيلَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ شَهْوَتِهِ فِي الْآخِرَةِ ، وَمَنْ فَدَّ عَيْنَيْهِ إِلَى زِينَةِ الْمُتْرَفِينَ كَانَ مَهِينًا فِي مَلَكُوتِ السَّمَاوَاتِ ، وَمَنْ صَبَرَ عَلَى الْقُوتِ الشَّدِيدِ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا أَسْكَنَهُ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْفِرْدَوْسِ حَيْثُ شَاءَ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الصَّغِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْبَجَلِيُّ ، وَثَّقَهُ ابْنُ حِبَّانَ ، وَضَعَّفَهُ الْجُمْهُورُ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever fulfils his craving for food and drink in the world, a barrier will come between him and his desire in the Hereafter. Whoever fixes his eyes on the adornment of the affluent is disgraced in the kingdom of the heavens. And whoever bears hardship in his bare necessities with beautiful patience, Allah Almighty will settle him in Firdaws wherever he wishes."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Isma'il bin Amr al-Bajali, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy) while the majority declared him da'if (weak), and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
