Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "There was a young goat among a large flock of goats. Its mother would suckle it and it would be satisfied. One day it got loose and suckled from all the goats, yet it still was not satisfied. Then it was said: This is the example of people who will come after you; a man among them will be given what would suffice a tribe (the narrator is in doubt, or perhaps the words are:) a nation, yet he will still not be satisfied."
Bazzar recorded it, and Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its narrators have been declared trustworthy, except Ata' bin al-Sa'ib, who became confused (ikhtilat) before his death.
