Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) gave him permission to enter, and he had a staff in his hand. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Ka'b! Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) has passed away and has left wealth behind. What is your opinion about it?" Ka'b replied: "If he fulfilled the right of Allah Almighty regarding that wealth, then there is no harm upon him." Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) raised his staff, struck Ka'b with it and said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "I would not like this mountain to become gold for me, and I keep spending it and it keeps being accepted from me, and then I leave behind six uqiyahs of it." (Then Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) said:) "O Uthman! I ask you by Allah, did you hear this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He asked this three times, and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "Yes!"
Ahmad recorded it, and its chain contains Ibn Lahi'ah, whom more than one scholar has declared da'if (weak).
Abu Ya'la recorded it in al-Kabir, and he narrated these words: "Ka'b said: 'I have found in the Torah what I narrated to you, and Allah Almighty has said: "Allah erases what He wills," to the end of the verse.' He said: 'Allah Almighty has erased it, and I seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty.'"
