عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " مَنْ وَعَدَهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَلَى عَمَلٍ ثَوَابًا فَهُوَ مُنْجِزُهُ لَهُ ، وَمَنْ وَعَدَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَى عَمَلٍ عِقَابًا ، فَهُوَ مِنْهُ بِالْخِيَارِ " . رَوَاهُ أَبُو يَعْلَى ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ سُهَيْلُ بْنُ أَبِي حَزْمٍ ، وَقَدْ وُثِّقَ عَلَى ضَعْفِهِ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whomever Allah Almighty has promised a reward for some deed, Allah Almighty will fulfil the promise He made to him; and whomever Allah Almighty has warned of punishment for committing some deed, then regarding that warning, Allah Almighty has the choice (that is, if Allah wills, He will punish that person according to the warning, and if He wills, He will forgive him)."
Abu Ya'la and at-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Suhayl bin Abi Hazm, who has been declared trustworthy despite his weakness, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
