Sayyiduna Abu Tawil Shatb al-Mamdud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: What is your view of a person who commits all sins and leaves none of them, and in doing so commits every sin great and small; is there any repentance for him? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Have you accepted Islam?" He said: As for me, I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah Almighty and that you are the Messenger of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do good deeds and abandon evil deeds, and Allah Almighty will turn all of them into good deeds for you." The man asked: My betrayals and my transgressions as well (will Allah Almighty turn them into good deeds)? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." The man said: Allahu Akbar! And he kept on saying takbir until he disappeared from sight.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and al-Bazzar recorded something similar, except that he recorded these words: "Do good deeds and keep reflecting." The narrators of al-Bazzar are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Muhammad bin Harun Abu Nashit, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
