Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty continues to accept the repentance of the servant (the narrator is in doubt, or perhaps the words are:) Allah Almighty continues to forgive the servant, as long as the veil has not fallen." It was asked: What is meant by the falling of the veil? He said: "That the soul departs while it is a polytheist."
Ahmad and al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains Abd al-Rahman bin Thabit bin Thawban, whom a group declared thiqah (trustworthy) while others declared him da'if (weak), and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). One of al-Bazzar's two chains contains Ibrahim bin Hani', who is da'if (weak).
