Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: "Do not be hasty in praising people or in condemning them, for it may be that today you see something from your brother that pleases you, and tomorrow it may displease you; and it may also be that today something from him displeases you, and tomorrow it begins to please you. People fall into misjudgement, and it is on the Day of Resurrection that Allah Almighty will forgive sins. When the servant presents himself before Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty will be more merciful to His servant than a person's mother is, who spreads a bed for her child on the ground and then passes her hand over it to check, so that if there is a thorn in it, it pricks her hand before the child, and if there is a stinging creature, it stings her before the child."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is munqati' (broken). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Some hadiths on this will come later in the chapter on seeking forgiveness for those who commit major sins.
