Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! I have never been sent to any prophet who was more beloved to me than you. Shall I not teach you some names of Allah Almighty which are the most beloved to Allah Almighty for being called upon with them? Recite:
'Ya nura al-samawati wa al-ard, ya zayna al-samawati wa al-ard, ya jabbara al-samawati wa al-ard, ya 'imada al-samawati wa al-ard, ya badi'a al-samawati wa al-ard, ya qayyama al-samawati wa al-ard, ya dha al-jalali wa al-ikram, ya sarikha al-mustasrikhin, wa ya ghiyatha al-mustaghithin, wa muntaha al-'abidin, al-mufarriju 'an al-makrubin, al-murawwihu 'an al-maghmumin, wa mujiba du'a'i al-mudtarrin, wa kashifa al-karb, ya ilaha al-'alamin, wa ya arhama al-rahimin, manzulun laka kullu hajah' (O Light of the heavens and the earth! O Adornment of the heavens and the earth! O Mighty Compeller of the heavens and the earth! O Pillar of the heavens and the earth! O Originator of the heavens and the earth! O Sustainer of the heavens and the earth! O Possessor of majesty and honour! O Helper of those who cry out for help! O Aider of those who seek aid! O Final Goal of the worshippers! O Reliever of the distressed! O Giver of comfort to the grieving! O Answerer of the supplication of those in dire need! O Remover of hardship! O Lord of all the worlds! O Most Merciful of those who show mercy! Through You every need is fulfilled).
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Sallam al-Tawil, who is matruk (abandoned).
