Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whichever Muslim makes a supplication in which there is no element of sin or of severing family ties, Allah Almighty grants him the result of that supplication in one of three ways: either the effect of his supplication appears quickly, or Allah Almighty keeps (its reward) stored for the Hereafter, or else, in proportion to it, He turns away some evil (or hardship) from that person." The people said: "Then we should supplicate abundantly." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty is more abundant (in giving)."
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration, Imam Abu Ya'la recorded something similar, and Imam al-Bazzar and Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. The narrators of Imam Ahmad and Imam Abu Ya'la, and the narrators of one of Imam al-Bazzar's two chains, are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Ali bin Ali al-Rifa'i, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
