Majma al-Zawaid 17114 — What one says when the ghouls appear
وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا تَغَوَّلَتِ لَكُمْ الْغُولُ فَنَادُوا بِالْأَذَانِ ; فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ إِذَا سَمِعَ النِّدَاءَ أَدْبَرَ ، وَلَهُ حُصَاصٌ " . قُلْتُ : وَفِيهِ عَدِيُّ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ ، وَهُوَ مَتْرُوكٌ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a ghoul (ghul) appears before you, call the adhan! For when Satan hears the adhan, he turns his back and runs away swiftly."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Its chain contains a narrator, Adi bin al-Fadl, who is matruk (abandoned).
