Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 17102

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The safety of my Ummah from drowning, when they board ships (the narrator is in doubt; perhaps the words are:) the sea (that is, a ship or boat and the like during a sea voyage), lies in reciting:
'Bismillahil-Malik' (In the name of Allah, seeking blessing, who is the King): "They did not esteem Allah Almighty as is His due esteem, while the entire earth will be in His grasp on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens will be folded in His right hand. He is free from imperfection and exalted above what they associate with Him." [Al-Zumar: 67]
"In the name of Allah, seeking blessing, is its sailing and its anchoring (of the vessel); indeed, my Lord is Forgiving, Merciful." [Hud: 41]"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Nahshal bin Sa'id, who is matruk (abandoned).
