بَابُ مَا يَقُولُ إِذَا رَكِبَ الْبَحْرَ .
What one says when travelling by sea
Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 17101

عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَمَانُ أُمَّتِي مِنَ الْغَرَقِ إِذَا رَكِبُوا الْبَحْرَ أَنْ يَقُولُوا : ( بِسْمِ اللَّهِ مَجْرِيهَا وَمُرْسَاهَا إِنَّ رَبِّي لَغَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ ) ( وَمَا قَدَرُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ ) الْآيَةَ " .
رَوَاهُ أَبُو يَعْلَى عَنْ شَيْخِهِ جُبَارَةَ بْنِ مُغَلِّسٍ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .

Sayyiduna Imam Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the people of my Ummah board the sea (that is, a ship or boat during a sea voyage), their safety from drowning lies in reciting:
"In the name of Allah, seeking blessing, is its sailing and its anchoring (of the vessel); indeed, my Lord is Forgiving, Merciful." [Hud: 41]
"And they did not esteem Allah Almighty as is His due esteem." [Al-An'am: 91] (to the end of) the verse."
Abu Ya'la recorded it from his teacher Jubarah bin Mughallis, who is da'if (weak).
