Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked his Companions: What do you recite when going to sleep? When the turn of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him) came, he said: I recite:
'Anta khalaqta hadhihin-nafs, laka mahyaha wa mamatuha, fa-in tawaffaytaha fa-'afiha wa'fu 'anha, wa in radadtaha fahfazha wahdiha' (You created this soul; its life and its death belong to You. If You take it in death, grant it well-being and pardon it, and if You return it, protect it and keep it firm upon guidance).
The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) liked his words.
Al-Bazzar recorded it from Umar bin Isma'il bin Mujalid, who is a kadhdhab (liar).
