Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: It was said: O Messenger of Allah! So-and-so did not sleep last night. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Why? He said: A scorpion stung him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If, on going to his bed, he had recited: 'A'udhu bi-kalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq' (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah Almighty from the evil of everything He has created), it (i.e. the scorpion) would not have harmed him (i.e. the man).
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Wahb bin Rashid al-Raqqi, who is matruk (abandoned).
