Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: In the morning, when the sun had risen, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite:
'Allahumma asbahtu wa shahidtu bima shahidta bihi 'ala nafsik, wa ashhadta mala'ikataka wa ulil-'ilm, wa man lam yashhad bima shahidta faktub shahadati makana shahadatih: Allahumma antas-salam, wa minkas-salam, wa ilayka ya'udus-salam, ya dhal-jalali wal-ikram, an tastajiba lana da'watana, wa an tu'tiyana raghbatana, wa an tughniyana 'amman aghnaytahu 'anna min khalqik. Allahumma aslih li diniyal-ladhi huwa 'ismatu amri, wa aslih li dunyayal-lati fiha ma'ishati, wa aslih li akhiratiyal-lati ilayha munqalabi'
"O Allah, I have entered the morning, and I bear witness to that which You have borne witness to concerning Yourself, and to which You have made Your angels and the people of knowledge witnesses; and whoever does not bear witness to what You have borne witness to, then record my testimony in place of his testimony. O Allah, You are the One who grants peace, peace is granted from You, and peace returns to You. O Possessor of majesty and honour! (That is, I supplicate) that You accept our supplication, grant us what we desire, and make us free of need of everyone of Your creation whom You have made free of need of us. O Allah, keep my religion right for me, which is the foundation of the protection of my affairs; keep my worldly life right for me, in which I am to live; and keep my Hereafter right for me, to which I am to return."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains Dawud bin Abdul Hamid, who is da'if (weak).
