Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When I narrate a hadith to you, I will also present to you a proof confirming it from the Book of Allah Almighty. When a Muslim servant says 'Alhamdulillah' (all praise is for Allah), 'Subhan Allah' (glory be to Allah), 'La ilaha illa Allah' (there is no god but Allah), 'Allahu akbar' (Allah is the Greatest) and 'Tabarak Allah' (blessed is Allah), an angel takes these words into his possession and places them under his wings. Then he ascends with them, and whichever group of angels he passes by, those angels pray for forgiveness for the one who said them, until that angel brings them before the Most Merciful. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: "To Him ascend good words, and righteous deeds He raises up."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains al-Mas'udi, who is thiqah (trustworthy), but he suffered from confusion (ikhtilat); the narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
