Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever recites: 'La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir' (There is no deity except Allah; He alone is the deity, He has no partner; to Him alone belongs the dominion, to Him alone belongs all praise, and He has power over all things), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says: 'Then no deed will surpass it, and no sin will remain along with it.'"
Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Sulaym bin Uthman al-Ta'i al-Fawzi, Abu Uthman al-Himsi, as mentioned in Mizan al-I'tidal. More than one scholar has declared him da'if (weak) on account of his memory. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in al-Thiqat and said: No one narrated from him except Sulayman bin Salamah al-Khaba'iri, and this narrator is da'if (weak); if another narrator from him is found, his hadith will be taken into consideration, and he will be placed with those regarding whom leniency is shown in criticism or commendation (jarh or ta'dil). Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned him and stated: He narrated from his father, and Muhammad bin Awf and Abu Utbah Ahmad bin Abi al-Faraj narrated from him; he is majhul (unknown) and narrated strange reports; three people narrated from him. The rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
