Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When a believing servant gets up to pray, his sins are placed upon his head, and then those sins separate from him just as the branches of a tree spread out to the right and the left."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Aban bin Abi Ayyash, whom Shu'bah, Ahmad and others declared da'if (weak), while Salm al-Alawi and others declared him thiqah (trustworthy).
