Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: At the Battle of Hunayn, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) obtained spoils of war, and he distributed them among the people. The Ansar said: "We do the fighting and the spoils go to other people!" When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this, he sent them a message summoning them: "Gather together." Then he went to them and said: "O company of the Ansar! Is there anyone among you who is not one of you?" They said: "No! There is a nephew of ours (a sister's son) and a freed slave of ours." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The nephew (sister's son) of a people is one of them, and the freed slave of a people is one of them." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O company of the Ansar! Are you not pleased that the people should take away sheep, goats and camels while you take Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to your homes?" They said: "We are pleased with that."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration. Its chain contains Muhammad bin Jabir al-Suhaymi, who is da'if (weak), though he has also been declared trustworthy.
