عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى قَالَ : نَادَى رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ [ الشامِ ] يَوْمِ صِفِّيَنَ : أَفِيكُمْ أُوَيْسٌ الْقَرَنِيُّ ؟ قَالُوا : نَعَمْ . قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ مِنْ خَيْرِ التَّابِعِينَ أُوَيْسًا " . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ جَيِّدٌ .
Ibn Abi Layla narrates: On the day of the Battle of Siffin, a man from the people of Syria called out loudly: "Is Uways al-Qarani (may Allah have mercy on him) among you?" The people replied: "Yes!" The man said: "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Among the best of the Successors (Tabi'in) is Uways.'"
Ahmad recorded it, and its chain is jayyid (good).
