قَالَ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ : الْأَحْنَفُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ مُخَضْرَمٌ ، وَاسْمُهُ : صَخْرُ بْنُ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ [ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ نَزَالِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ زَيْدِ ] مَنَاةَ بْنِ تَمِيمِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ .
Imam Tabarani says: This is al-Ahnaf bin Qays, who has the distinction of being a mukhadram (that is, he lived in both the Days of Ignorance and the era of Islam). His name is Sakhr bin Qays bin Mu'awiyah bin Husayn bin Ubadah bin Nazzal bin Murrah bin Ubayd bin al-Harith bin Amr bin Sa'd bin Zayd Manat bin Tamim bin Murrah.
