Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 16189

Sayyiduna Safwan bin al-Mu'attal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We set out to perform Hajj. When we reached the place called al-Arj, we saw a snake writhing there, and within a short while it died. Then a man came forward, took a cloth out of his bag, wrapped it in it and buried it, digging a trench in the ground for it. When we came to Makkah, I was in the Sacred Mosque when a person came and stopped by us and asked: "Which of you is Amr bin Jabir?" We said: "We do not know him." He asked us: "Which of you is the one of the jinn (who buried him)?" We said: "This one." They said: "May Allah Almighty reward you with good! He was the last to die of the nine who came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and listened attentively to the Qur'an."
Abdullah bin Ahmad and Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Umar bin Nabhan al-Abdi, who is matruk (abandoned).
