Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Zayd bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him) were in Makkah. Meanwhile, Zayd bin Amr bin Nufayl passed by them, and the two of them invited him to eat. Zayd said: "O my nephew! I do not eat an animal that has been slaughtered at an idol." The narrator says: After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was never seen eating anything that had been slaughtered at an idol. The narrator says: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, my father (that is, Zayd bin Amr bin Nufayl) was as you saw, and as you were informed. Had he lived to see your time, he would have believed in you and followed you; so please pray for his forgiveness!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Very well; you should pray for his forgiveness! For on the Day of Resurrection he will be raised as a nation by himself."
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, al-Mas'udi, whose memory became confused (ikhtilat), and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
