Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 16148

Abdullah bin al-Samit narrates: Sayyiduna al-Hakam bin Amr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) led the people in prayer during a journey, and there was a sutrah (barrier) in front of him. A donkey passed in front of his companions, so he led them in the prayer again. The people said: He intends to do as al-Walid bin Uqbah did, when he led his companions in four rak'ahs in the morning prayer and then said: I will give you even more. The narrator says: I went and caught up with Sayyiduna al-Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him) and mentioned this to him. He stopped until the people reached him, and Sayyiduna al-Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I led you in the prayer again because of the donkeys that passed in front of you, and you have likened me to Ibn Abi Mu'ayt. I ask Allah Almighty to make your conduct excellent, to make your attainment excellent, to help you against your enemy, and to separate me from you. Then those people set off, and on their way they found only what pleased them, until, when they had finished that campaign, Sayyiduna al-Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
