Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when Sayyiduna Harmalah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) came and sat down before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: O Messenger of Allah! Faith is here, and he pointed to his tongue; and hypocrisy is here, and he pointed to his chest; and he remembers Allah Almighty only a little. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent towards him. Sayyiduna Harmalah (may Allah be pleased with him) repeated his words before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of the tip of the tongue of Sayyiduna Harmalah (may Allah be pleased with him) and supplicated:
"O Allah! Make his tongue truthful and his heart grateful, grant him love for me and love for whoever loves me, and turn his affair towards good."
Sayyiduna Harmalah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! I have brothers who are hypocrites, and I was a leader among them; shall I not point them out to you? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever comes to us as you have come to us, we will seek forgiveness for him just as we have sought forgiveness for you; and whoever persists in his sin, Allah Almighty has more right over him; and we will not tear away anyone's veil.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
