Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 16101

Humayd bin Abd al-Rahman al-Himyari narrates: There was a man named Sayyiduna Humamah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). During the caliphate of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he went towards Isfahan to take part in battle. He prayed: "O Allah! Humamah thinks that he loves to come into Your presence. So if Humamah is truthful in this, then make his truthfulness firm for him; and if he dislikes it, then make it firm for him nonetheless, even if he dislikes it. O Allah! Let Humamah not return from this journey of his." The narrator says: So death seized him, and he passed away in Isfahan. The narrator states: Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: "O people! By Allah, according to whatever we have learned from your Prophet and whatever knowledge has reached us, Humamah will be counted a martyr."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Dawud bin Abdullah al-Awdi, and he is thiqah (trustworthy), though there is a difference of opinion about him.
