Sayyiduna Awf bin al-Qa'qa' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: My father went with a delegation into the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); I was with him and was a young boy. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that each person be given two cloaks, and ordered that I be given one cloak. When we came back from there, one of those men sold one of his two cloaks, and I bought that cloak. Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wearing two cloaks. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at me and asked: "Where did you get this?" I submitted: "I bought it from so-and-so." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You were more deserving of it than he, for that man has wasted what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain contains a group of narrators whom I do not know.
