وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ : قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَمَعَهُ كِتَابٌ قَالَ : " لَأُعْطِيَنَّ هَذَا الْكِتَابَ رَجُلًا يُحِبُّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ، وَيُحِبُّهُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ، قُمْ يَا عُثْمَانُ بْنَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ " . فَقَامَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ فَدَفَعَهُ إِلَيْهِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ يَعْلَى أَبُو أُمَيَّةَ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on the pulpit with a written document in his blessed hand. He said: "I will give this document to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and whom Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) love. O Uthman bin Abi al-As! Stand up." So Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) handed that document to him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Isma'il bin Ya'la Abu Umayyah, who is da'if (weak).
