Abu Miskin has reported, on the authority of Talhah bin Miskin, about Sayyiduna Talhah bin al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Extend!" He meant: extend your blessed hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Even if I were to order you to cut ties with your parents?" I said: "No!" Then I said to him again: "Extend your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Upon what?" I said: "Upon Islam." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Even if I were to order you to cut ties with your parents?" I replied: "No!" Then I said it a third time. (The narrator says:) That Companion had a mother, and he treated her better than anyone else. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "O Talhah! In our religion there is no violating the rights of kinship, but I wanted that you should have no doubt about your religion." So he accepted Islam, and his Islam was excellent. Then he fell ill, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to visit him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) found that he had fallen unconscious. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Concerning Talhah, I expect that he will pass away tonight. If he regains consciousness, send me a message to call me." In the middle of the night Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) regained consciousness. He asked: "Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) not visit me?" The people said: "Yes (that is, he did)." Then the people told him about what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said. He said: "Do not send anyone to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at this hour! It may be that some creature stings the person who goes, or that some other harm befalls him. Rather, when I am gone, convey my greetings of peace to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and make this request to him: that he pray for forgiveness for me." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had offered the dawn prayer and asked about that man, the people told the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about his death and about what he had said. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his blessed hand and supplicated: "O Allah! Meet him in such a state that he is smiling towards You, and You are smiling towards him."
Al-Tabarani recorded it as a mursal report; I do not know the narrator Abd Rabbih bin Salih, and the rest of its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
