Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to them: "O company of the Ansar! Why is it that you did not come to meet me along with your brothers from Quraysh?" Sayyiduna Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Because of need." Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Do you not have camels?" They replied: "We wore them out on the day of Badr, fighting alongside the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Ata bin al-Sa'ib, who is thiqah (trustworthy) but suffered from confusion (ikhtilat), and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
