Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Banu Salimah! Who is your chief today?" The people replied: "It is Jadd bin Qays, but we consider him miserly." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What illness is worse than miserliness? Rather, your chief is Amr bin al-Jamuh."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Ibrahim bin Yazid al-Makki, who is matruk (abandoned). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Some hadiths of this kind have already passed in the Book of Zakah, in the chapter on miserliness and generosity.
