وَعَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " يَا أَبَا الْمُنْذِرِ ، إِنِّي أُمِرْتُ : أَنْ أَعْرِضَ عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْآنَ " . فَقَالَ : بِاللَّهِ آمَنْتُ ، وَعَلَى يَدَيْكَ أَسْلَمْتُ ، وَمِنْكَ تَعَلَّمْتُ قَالَ : فَرَدَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - الْقَوْلَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَذُكِرْتُ هُنَاكَ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ بِاسْمِكَ وَنَسَبِكَ فِي الْمَلَأِ الْأَعْلَى " . قَالَ : فَاقْرَأْ إِذًا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ .
Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu al-Mundhir! I have been commanded to recite the Qur'an to you." He submitted: "I believe in Allah Almighty, I accepted Islam at your hand, and I acquired knowledge from you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated his words, so he submitted: "O Messenger of Allah! Was I mentioned there?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes! You were mentioned by your name and your lineage in the Highest Assembly." So he submitted: "O Messenger of Allah! Then recite."
