Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: We returned from Hajj (the narrator is in doubt, or perhaps the words are:) Umrah. When we reached Dhu al-Hulayfah, there were some young men of the Ansar there who met their relatives. These people met Sayyiduna Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) and told Sayyiduna Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him) about the death of his wife. Sayyiduna Usayd lowered his head and began to weep. I said to him: May Allah Almighty forgive you! You are a Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and you have the honour of precedence and seniority; why is it that you are weeping over a woman? He removed the cloth from his face and said: You are right; by my life! It is my due that I should not weep over anyone after Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him), when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has said something about him. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I asked him: What did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say about him? He told me: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Throne shook at the death of Sa'd bin Mu'adh." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: At that time Sayyiduna Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) was walking between me and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Ahmad recorded it in this way.
