Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports: When the news of the death of Sayyiduna Ja'far bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to Sayyidah Asma' bint Umays (may Allah be pleased with her). He seated the two sons of Sayyiduna Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him), Abdullah and Muhammad, on his lap and then said: "Jibril has just informed me that Allah Almighty has honoured Ja'far with martyrdom, and that he has two wings with which he flies along with the angels in Paradise." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated: "O Allah! Take care of Ja'far's children."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Umar bin Harun, who is da'if (weak), though he has been declared trustworthy; the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
